The initiative will give Oslo greater impact in the global competition for investment, talent, and visitors.

The City of Oslo is now bringing its effort on investment, talent, and international promotion together under Oslo&Co — formerly Oslo Business Region.

The challenge is clear: Europe is in a new era of uncertainty, calling for more collaboration. At the same time, global competition for capital, talent ,and strategic investment is intensifying.

"Oslo has research, innovation, culture and experiences that can compete with any major city in the world."

Yet, we’re not reaching as far as we could. If we are to truly claim our place internationally, we need to connect more closely to the global arenas where attention, capital and opportunity are distributed. Oslo has high value creation per capita, but weaker international impact than our Nordic competitors. That is a challenge we must take seriously and address in close cooperation with the business community, says Anita Leirvik North, Vice Mayor for Culture and Business Development in Oslo.

The City of Oslo’s new initiative through Oslo&Co is about viewing our target groups in context and acting as a unifying local driver. For us, this is an investment in Oslo’s future that will contribute to sustainable economic growth.

Oslo&Co to increase Oslo´s visibility on the global stage

In our dialogue with knowledge institutions, cultural institutions and the business community, the message is crystal clear: Oslo must stand out more clearly and show the world what the city is capable of.

"We are now organizing ourselves to deliver on our mandate, sharpen our role and establish new partnerships that create greater impact", says CEO of Oslo&Co, Siw Andersen.

We are uniting Oslo's effort on investment, talent and international visibility into a more focused organisation. We will prioritise more clearly, coordinate more effectively, and build partnerships that mobilise investment and attract talent. It must become clearer to the world what Oslo offers and what distinguishes us from other Nordic cities.

Several European capitals have organized themselves in similar ways. We want to learn from the best while developing a model tailored to Oslo’s strengths and conditions.

"The goal is to attract more investment, more talent and strengthen Oslo’s international position."

A long-term strategy for Oslo

This is about setting a clear, long-term direction for Oslo as an international business region. If we are to succeed, we must prioritize correctly, build on a solid knowledge base and unite stakeholders around common goals, says Chair of the Board Øystein E. Søreide.

Oslo&Co will ensure that efforts are better coordinated and that resources are used where they have the greatest impact. It is a forward-looking investment in Oslo’s growth and competitiveness.
